To end our week in CEO, we toured Skill Electric in Vincennes, with owner, Brandon Tully. We were also joined by Jeannie Vaughn, the CFO of Skill Electric, and mother of LCCEO student, Logan Vaughn. We began our morning by getting a tour of Skill Electric’s office building and warehouse, built in 2016. We then transitioned to the loft where we enjoyed donuts, fruit, coffee, and milk. Once we finished eating, Brandon began by speaking to the class about himself and his experiences. Brandon is a Red Hill graduate, and after high school, entered an Electrician’s Apprenticeship program. After completing his apprenticeship, he got a job as an electrician, working for another company. Brandon then started Skill Electric in 2003. They mainly focus on business and industrial electrical work, but do some residential projects. With Brandon, students discussed their businesses and explained why they wanted to start a business. He gave the advice that it is imperative to be an expert on your business/products. We also discussed the Ten-Thousand Hour Rule, which states that it takes you 10,000 hours to become an expert at doing something. Some specific pieces of advice Brandon gave the class included to always do your own research, to commit yourself to a lifetime of learning, and that you always get what you pay for, regardless if its workers, donuts, or tools. He also recommended a book to all students, titled Rich Dad, Poor Dad. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with Brandon; It was a great way to round out the week!
