Monday in CEO, we toured The Pizza House in Bridgeport with owner, Beth Jennings. We began by touring the kitchen. Beth showed the class different parts of the kitchen and explained what happens at each station. There are three jobs in the kitchen- Pizza Cook, Grill Cook, and Cut Table. After the kitchen tour, we transitioned to the dining room where we enjoyed homemade donuts, juice, and coffee. There, Beth further explained the history of The Pizza House and gave advice to the students. Beth first purchased The Pizza House nearly 25 years ago, and since then, it has been in 3 locations. They have been in their current location, on Judy Avenue, for 3 years, next month. Beth also told the class how the sauce recipe has not changed since The Pizza House was first opened by the DiMaggio Family. Some advice shared with the class included to always ensure you have good people working for you and to be an expert on your own business. We also discussed that there is always a better way to do things, but it is best to stop when the highest efficiency is achieved. To end the tour, students asked Beth questions about her past experiences in life and what she expects to happen to small businesses in virtue of the upcoming raises in minimum working wages. It was a great tour to begin the week and we thank Beth for allowing us to visit today!
